The GWO Basic Safety Training Manual Handling module provides important knowledge and practical skills to perform safe manual handling in wind turbine environments, both onshore and offshore. Participants will learn how to reduce the risk of musculoskeletal injuries by understanding body mechanics, applying correct handling techniques, and conducting basic risk assessments.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the GWO BST Manual Handling course, participants will be able to:

  1. Integrate safe practices into daily tasks through scenario-based learning and warm-up routines.
  2. Demonstrate correct manual handling techniques to minimize risk of injury.
  3. Identify the typical symptoms and causes of manual handling-related injuries.
  4. Understand and apply the TILE principle (Task, Individual, Load, Environment) during handling operations.
  5. Conduct a basic dynamic risk assessment before performing manual handling tasks.

GWO BST MH: 2 hours of e-learning and 1.5 hours of practical classes.
GWO BST MH REFRESHER: 2 hours of e-learning and 1.5 hours of practical classes.

Theoretical lessons will be provided online via the BOTC e-learning platform. Practical classes must be completed within 28 days of finishing the theoretical classes.

Course Participant Prerequisites:

The course participants shall be medically fit, appear well-rested, and be capable of fully participating, showing no signs of fatigue, substance abuse, or sickness.

The course participant shall have created a personal profile in WINDA, and have provided their WINDA ID prior to completing the GWO training.

When attending refresher training, the course participants must do so before the expiry of the previous training record’s validity period.
